People looking for a new flat are asked to send money to themselves by Western Union Money Transfer and then give the receipt to a prospective landlord, in order to prove they have enough money for rent and deposit on a new property. This is not standard practice in house-letting and we strongly advise people not to do it! Once the scammer gets the MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number) from the receipt they've effectively got control over your money.
In all situations we strongly advise students not give out their personal or financial details without verifying the person advertising is actually the Landlord/Agent for that property.
These sorts of scams are quite rare and the vast majority of Landlords using studentpad are genuine home owners and agents.
If you have any questions regarding a property on Studentpad please do not hesitate to contact us.
